HONORABLE SCHOLAR

At any school, it is prudent to be honorable in one’s studies and develop a strong work ethic. At Foothills Christian specifically, using critical thinking skills, effectively communicating with peers, and being a self-directed learner are imperative in one’s high school experience. Because of Foothills’ part-time homeschool curriculum, being on top of assignments. is even more important since half of our learning is done on our own.
I can think back to a time, very recently, where I demonstrated “honorable scholar” characteristics. In my government class, we had to make a podcast with our group members for our unit project. My group negotiated very well with one another communication-wise, and we were able to set a time for our rough draft and final podcast in an unproblematic manner. On the same weekend, I had to do a project for Apologetics class with a friend, and we finished in two days without any disagreements. In both of these projects, I believe I was diligent in getting my work done, and I was cooperative with my peers. The podcast project taught me and my group to do our own research, present that research in a different way than usual, and have a productive and enlightening conversation with one another. The slideshow for Apologetics taught me some of the same values, with the addition of picking a partner who was just as engaged as I was. In both of these projects, I did not have to carry my team or do most of the work which taught me the values of being a team player and letting others take the lead once in a while.
